so i overheard someone making this comment,
"some girls ah, so materialistic. all they want are the branded stuff.
gucci lah,chanel lah, LV...
really pity their boyfriends leh."
this remark, was obviously made by a guy.
and it got me thinking, does lusting after branded items equate to being materialistic?
i think not.
its just like a guy wanting some top of the range electronic gadget.
would you label the guy as being materialistic?
some guys would argue that gadgets and a branded bag are entirely different
and we cant possibly compare the two.
but.. why cant we?
i can draw several similarities here.
one being, its about the quality and not the price.
some people can spend thousands on a good stereo set.
and some, spend the same amount on a classic luxury bag.
it all lies in the mentality of people.
some justify by claiming that the gadgets are at least of use.
well...what makes you think that a $2000 chanel bag isnt useful?
it might not be practical, but if the bag can last for many years to come
and can make a girl happy, i dont see what is the big deal.
and i do admit that i do have a wishlist of branded items that i want,
ranging from coach, gucci, burberry to the classic chanel 2.55, hermes birkin.
but i for one, will never expect anyone other than myself,
to get those items one day.
so does lusting after branded bags make me a materialistic girl?
i dont think so.
being a self-confessed shopaholic, i find joy in buying stuff.
it doesnt necessarily have to be branded,
my buys are mostly cheap dresses with no brands at all.
and the only item i own that is branded is a coach wallet.
but still, i am happy.
i am happy everytime i buy new cheap clothes.
i am happy owning no branded bags
i will never rank money as being more important than many other aspects of life.
to me, happiness is not about owning a coveted chanel 2.55.
but still, i see no reason why i cant lust after what i desire.
its a free country, its our free will.
im sure alot of girls secretly want a branded bag.
at least im honest about it.
it just irks me to hear those kind of shallow comments.
phew. what a longggg entry.
okay, 21 more days to freedom!
and 8 days to exam hell. urghh.
